Note that the works were composed during a short time span in the 1920s. Paul Hindemith, Carl Nielsen and Arnold Schoenberg each had their own influential voice in shaping the music of the last century.  This will be a concert not to be missed for its variety and historical interest.

MAKING MUSIC MODERN I was presented May 20, 2018 as part of DSPM's 10th anniversary season, MAKING MUSIC MODERN, was a concert that surveyed music written in the 20th century, illuminating the extraordinary devlopment of composition during that era.  Presented with brief spoken narratives, the concert provided the audience with a contexual understanding of the fascinating changes that took place.

MAKING MUSIC MODERN was dedicated to the memory of PIERRE BOULEZ (1925-2016), an iconic 20th century composer and conductor, who was a key figure in the musical life of Chicago for many years.

The concert featured many performers who worked closely with Mr. Boulez.

MAKING MUSIC MODERN was presented free.
